Granada: Essential tips to discover the city while learning Spanish
Studying Spanish in Granada is much more than just attending classes: it means living the city, talking to local people and immersing yourself in its culture. To help you make the most of your stay, we would like to share some essential tips to discover Granada while improving your Spanish day by day.
1. Visit the Alhambra
The Alhambra is Granada’s most iconic monument and a must-see. Our advice is to buy your ticket in advance and make the most of the visit by reading, listening and commenting on everything you see in Spanish.
At the academy, we organise guided cultural outings where you not only visit the Alhambra and other historical sites, but also learn vocabulary, expressions and cultural context in Spanish in a practical and enjoyable way.
2. Explore the streets of the Albaicín
The Albaicín is perfect for getting lost without rushing. Walking through its narrow streets, asking for directions or chatting with local residents is an excellent way to hear real, everyday Spanish.
During our cultural outings, we visit neighbourhoods such as the Albaicín or Realejo so that you can practise the language in an authentic setting, always accompanied by teachers who help you understand and take part.
3. Learn Spanish through tapas
Granada is famous for its free tapas served with every drink. Ordering food, asking questions and commenting on what you eat are perfect situations to practise everyday Spanish.
During some of the activities organised by the academy, we take advantage of this tradition to learn Spanish in real-life contexts, expand vocabulary and gain fluency when speaking.
4. Speak without fear
Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. People in Granada are friendly and used to international students. Every conversation counts.
The activities and cultural outings we organise at the academy are specifically designed to help you speak Spanish with confidence, without pressure and in a group.
5. Enjoy Granada’s cultural life
Concerts, exhibitions, flamenco, films in original version… Granada has a very active cultural scene. Taking part in these activities improves your listening skills and brings you closer to Spanish culture.
Many of these experiences are part of our cultural programme, designed to complement classes and enrich your learning.
6. Connect with other international students
Granada is a university city with a multicultural atmosphere. The academy’s cultural outings are a perfect opportunity to meet other students, make friends and use Spanish as a common language.
7. Learn from the city every day
Write down new words you hear in the street, in class or during cultural activities. Ask about them, practise and reuse them. This way, learning becomes natural and constant.
Granada is meant to be lived — and so is Spanish
Granada is not just the place where you study Spanish: it is part of your learning process. At the academy, we support you both inside and outside the classroom so that you can experience the city, understand its culture and improve your Spanish almost without realising it.
